Vasiliev monastery
601293, Russia, Vladimir region, Suzdal, 32b Vasilievskaya str.
Description:
Vasilievsky Monastery in Suzdal is located near the Kremlin, as well as shopping arcades in the eastern part of the city. It was built in the XIII century at the behest of Vladimir the Red Sun. Initially, it was built to protect the main road from Suzdal to Kideksha in the Vladimir region.
Over time, a tent wooden church was erected, which in conjunction with the monastery became only for men. But the church has not survived, but many believe that it was here that the locals adopted Christianity. When Vladimir was baptized, they called him Basil. Subsequently, the monastery was named Vasilievsky, in the name of his patron.
From 1916 until 1923 women were admitted to the monastery. After this construction for a long time played the role of a warehouse. And finally, in 1995, a part of it was given for worship. Again the monastery became a worker and again a man.
The monastery itself has a cube-shaped volume, and on top there is an octahedron with an onion cupola. Originally it was three-headed, but only one dome has survived to our time. The bell tower of this monastery was built later, so there are more decorative items on it. From the bell tower there are beautiful views of the city of Suzdal.
Vasilievsky Monastery is located on Vasilievskaya Street, 32. If you drive from the main bus station, the distance will be only 1 kilometer.
