Suzdal

Sunday church

500 meters east of the M7 highway, Suzdal, Vladimir region, Russia

Description:

The Resurrection Church in Suzdal is located on the Trade Square, so it is often referred to as the Resurrection Church on the Trade. It’s summer, meaning it’s only meant to serve in the warmer months.

The scribe book mentions that this wooden church was already built in 1617. But in 1719 it was destroyed by fire, so the next year the locals built a stone church. After the old temple, only the bell was preserved.

From the outside the temple looks strict and almost completely absent decorative elements. The only exception is the front porch, which has arches and round pillars. Also in the upper part of the building you can see the openwork cornice with kokoshniks. It should be noted that on the pillars, as well as the walls of the Resurrection Church, fragments of paintings of the XVIII - XIX centuries are preserved.

The church is still active, but it doesn’t work every day. Another advantage of this church is the bell tower, which offers a beautiful view of the shopping area and the city of Suzdal.

Since the Resurrection Church is located on the main and famous shopping square, it is not difficult to get to this place. If you take the way from the bus station of Suzdal, the church is located only 20 minutes walk.
