Suzdal - the pearl of the Golden Ring
Description:
Just 30 km from Vladimir is the city of Suzdal – the pearl of the Golden Ring of Russia. On an area of 15 square kilometers there are almost 300 monuments of architecture. It is no coincidence that the city is called the “open-air museum”. Many foreigners coming to Russia want to see only 3 cities: Moscow, St. Petersburg and Suzdal. After all, this place preserved the originality of the county city of the 19th century.
The Suzdal Kremlin is still surrounded by the ramparts of the 12th century. On its territory there is a Christmas Cathedral - a building of the pre-Mongol era. Just a few steps from the Kremlin visit the Museum of wooden architecture. It seems that among the wooden churches, houses and mills, the way of our ancestors comes to life. It is no coincidence that several times a year there are holidays with folk festivals. Wide carnival with goose battles, a holiday of folk crafts on the Trinity and a unique cucumber festival can be visited by anyone.
In Suzdal come not only tourists – lovers of history, but also pilgrims to pray. There are 5 monasteries in the city, 4 of which are active. Believers from all corners of Russia come to visit the relics of Suzdal saints: Sofia, Euphrosyne, Fyodor, Arseny, Euphemia and others.
Just 4 km east of Suzdal in the village of Kideksha is the church of Boris and Gleb built in 1152. It is the oldest white stone church in the center of Russia. Kideksha was once a city. Here was the residence of the Suzdal prince - the founder of Moscow - Yuri Dolgoruky.
