Tambov Regional Museum of Local History

Tambov Regional Museum of Local Lore is one of the oldest in Russia. It was founded in 1879, to the 100th anniversary of the formation of the Tambov governorship.

Currently, the funds include more than 120 thousand items of storage: unique publications and documents of the XVII-XVIII centuries, works of painting and graphics, decorative and applied arts, weapons, ethnography, archaeology, scientific collections.

There are conferences, seminars, museum biennials, festivals, concerts. Large regional and interregional exposition and exhibition, scientific and educational, museum and pedagogical projects are being implemented, including in a multimedia format. A number of projects are supported by grants from the administration of the Tambov region, RGNF, the President of the Russian Federation.

Today, the museum is a scientific and methodological center for the museum network of the Tambov region. It is a member of the Assembly of Petrovsky Museums of Russia, the Association of Ethnographic Museums of Russia.
