I am glad to welcome you to my beloved city and will gladly show its wide avenues and quiet cozy streets, introduce you to the great and sad pages of its history, tell you what is famous for our sweet provincial city, which once claimed to be the capital of Russian lands.
Tver was ravaged more than once, but the city was reborn from the ashes every time, like a fabulous Phoenix bird. There are many big names associated with our city. If Ivan the Terrible organized pogroms in Tver, Peter I built bridges, and Catherine the Great arranged festive fireworks. Alexander I often visited Tver with his sister Grand Duchess Catherine Pavlovna.
