Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum
About the company:
D.S. Likhachev wrote about the Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum that it is the oldest museum in the Volga region, which stores an invaluable cultural heritage of all-Russian and world significance. The collections of the museum began to form in 1895 as an art section of the historical and archaeological museum of the Simbirsk Provincial Scientific Archival Commission. After the revolutionary events of 1917, the museum received an independent status and moved to its own building. At this time, the museum included nationalized collections of Simbirsk nobles, industrialists, merchants, among which it is especially worth noting the collections of V.N. Polivanov and E.M. Percy-French.
In the thirties, the museum was actively replenished with monuments that came from the State Museum Fund, the Pushkin House of the Academy of Sciences and even the Hermitage. Today, the museum collections number more than eleven thousand exhibits, among which are unique collections of Russian and Western European painting, sculpture and graphics. The special pride of the museum is the original paintings by D. Levitsky, F. Rokotov, V. Borovikovsky and K. Bryullov. The art museum has a department dedicated to decorative and applied arts, where guests can find unique antique ceramics of the 4-3 centuries BC, porcelain of Russia, Germany and France, as well as art furniture, Russian and Western European glass.
The Ulyanovsk Regional Art Museum has a comprehensive museum and pedagogical program “Invitation to the Museum”, the purpose of which is to develop the general culture of the youngest child. Another interesting area of museum activity is a series of excursions and classes within the educational program "Educate a Patriot".
