Sukhanovo Manor
d. Prominent, Moscow region, Russia
Description:
Initially, there was a royal patrimony, which in addition to Sukhanovo included two neighboring villages. At the end of the XVII century, Peter I granted the patrimony to his companion, boyar Tikhon Streshnev. The estate acquired its current appearance under the princes of Volkonsky, in whose possession it was before the revolution of 1917 - then many local buildings were built anew or rebuilt.
One of the attractions of Sukhanovo is the mausoleum, built in 1813 over the crypt in which Prince D. P. Volkonsky was buried. The structure is a rotunda. Previously it was the church of Dmitry Rostovsky, and in Soviet times the mausoleum was rebuilt as a dining room.
The estate is adjacent to a lush park with landscaped ponds - an exceptionally pleasant place for walking.
