The viewing platform on the roof of the famous design was recommended for familiarization with the noble European people who came to Tauris. The great Empress Catherine II herself wanted foreign visitors to know that there are landscapes in Russia that “exceed all the beauties of Europe put together and not built by human hands, but left by nature itself.”
