Valentine's Day (All Lovers' Day)

Description:

There lived a romantic priest Valentine, who patronized lovers.
February 14 – Valentine’s Day – the holiday of lovers.

During the reign of the Roman Empire Claudius 11 in the Roman city of Terni lived a romantic priest Valentine, who patronized lovers, reconciled quarrels, helped write love letters and even secretly married lovers. This was contrary to the wishes of the emperor, who, wishing to preserve the belligerent spirit of the legionnaires, forbade them to start a family. An angry Claudius ordered Valentine to be executed.

Subsequently, as a Christian martyr who suffered for his faith, Valentine was canonized by the Catholic Church. In 496, Pope Gelasius declared February 14 Valentine’s Day. In our time on this holiday like to arrange weddings and get married. It is believed that this will be the pledge of eternal love.
