Lutheran Cathedral in Cluj-Napoca

B-dul 21 Decembrie 1989, No. 1, Cluj-Napoca, Romania

Description:

The Lutheran Cathedral in Cluj Napoca is the main Lutheran church in Transylvania and the second largest in the country. The cathedral is officially recognized as an architectural monument and is under the auspices of the Romanian government.

The Cathedral in Cluj-Napoca was erected in 1829 by the famous architect Georg Winkler. The architectural style of the building combines two currents - Neoclassicism and Baroque. And the only tower of the temple rises 43 meters above the ground, making Lutheran Cathedral one of the tallest buildings in the city.

In addition to the magnificent exterior, the Lutheran Cathedral is also distinguished by its internal design. The altar and walls are painted by the skilled painter Johann Gentiluomo, and his frescoes have not lost their bright colors. The cathedral also boasts an ancient stone font - this element is even older than the building itself. The bath was made in 1721, and its Baroque style successfully complements the interior of the temple.

The Lutheran Cathedral in Cluj Napoca is a place of real religious pilgrimage for all Romanian Protestants and the main cult attraction of the city. However, the magnificent architecture and atmosphere of antiquity should impress even non-religious tourists.
