Mikhail Kogalnichanu International Airport

Description:

Mikhail Kogalniceanu International Airport is the main airport of Dobrudja, which is located in the southeast of Romania and provides communication with the largest Black Sea port of Constanta.

The airport was built between 1952 and 1962 and currently has one terminal. In 1979, a maximum capacity of 778,766 people was reached, driven by the influx of tourists from France and Italy.

The airport was the only base of MiG-29 aircraft of the Romanian Air Force.

Since 1999, the airport has been actively used by the US Air Force. In 2003, it was one of four Romanian bases for the invasion of Iraq. As of October 2009, the U.S. had spent $48 million upgrading the base.

Today, the airport has the necessary complex of services: there is a waiting room, parking, medical center, Duty Free store, bars and restaurants. A network of bus routes connects the airport with the railway station of Constanta, which allows you to get anywhere in the city.
