Craiova Airport
Description:
Craiova International Airport is located 7 kilometers from the city of the same name.
The airport was built in the late 1930s and served as a military base during World War II. Takeoff and landing were carried out on unequipped strip length of 1000 and width of 200 meters.
In the 1950s, a terminal building and a new strip length of 2,000 meters and width of 60 meters were built.
On May 6, 1957, the first Craiova-Budapest flight was performed on the Soviet Li-2 aircraft. The same flight was operated by the Il-14 until 1972, and in the 1980s by the An-24 and Il-18.
As a result of the revolution and the transition to a market economy in 1989, the number of domestic flights of TAROM decreased, and since 1994 completely ceased.
Since 2007, Carpatair has been cooperating with the airport, which serves routes to Italy, Greece and Germany.
On November 1, 2012, Wizz Air, the leader in the field of leisure and tourism, announced its cooperation, thanks to which new destinations will be opened, for example, Craiova - Milan.
