Prejmer, the corner of history

Prejmer, which houses a fortified church, is one of the best preserved fortifications in Europe, as well as the oldest historical monument in Brasov. One of the few that were not destroyed by the Communists, Nicolae Ceausescu himself gave money for its restoration. The inhabitants of this part of Transylvania used to suffer so often from marauding invaders that they built thick walls around their church and lived within these walls. They watched and held the aggressors with arrows and boiling oil until they could return to their country houses.
