Dambulla

Spice garden in Matala

matale, between Kandy and Dambulla, center of Sri Lanka

Description:

Sri Lanka has been known for spices since time immemorial. That's one of the island's revenue items. Flavored trees and grasses are usually grown on small private farms, such as the Spice Garden in Matala, which is adapted for tourist purposes.

The garden in Matala is a collection of not only spice plants, but also those used in medicine. Cloves, turmeric, pepper, vanilla, sandalwood, cardamom and many others - all this blooms, pebbles, rustles the leaves. Here you can not only see with your own eyes exotic herbs and trees, but also learn how they are grown and how they get products, which are mostly exported.

A walk through the amazing garden usually ends at the local shop, which presents an assortment of goods - creams, masks, Ayurvedic preparations and, of course, spices.
