Qasr al-Azem Palace

Qasr al-Azem Palace is located in the Christian Old Quarter of Damascus.

Description:

Qasr al-Azem Palace is one of the most impressive secular buildings in Syria. It was built in the XVIII century and originally served as the residence of the governor, and later became the Museum of art and folk traditions of Syria.

Qasr al-Azem is built in the traditional oriental style, it is divided into female and male halves, the official part, baths and outbuildings. About baths it is worth mentioning especially - the very abundance of bathing rooms is already striking. For different temperatures, there are different compartments, and nearby there are rooms for massage and rest.

A tour of the palace will be quite interesting, because its interiors are animated by genre scenes in which wax dolls participate.

You will see a proud and inaccessible pasha in a red fez and scarf, sitting on a low soft sofa, at a respectful distance from him, the viziers and scribes settled down in anticipation of orders. And all this is surrounded by truly Eastern splendor.

In the halls of the palace there are beautiful furniture, bright oriental carpets are laid out, elegant lamps are hung, and sitting under the trees near the wonderful fountain decorating the courtyard, you can feel yourself a real sultan or adored lady.
