For nature lovers – the valley of the river Kamniška Bistrica, Velika Planina

Description:

First we will visit the old Slovenian town of Kamnik, not far from which Velika Planina is located (1600 m). This place is located among the green pastures of the mountain plateau in the heart of the Kamnik Alps. The rich natural and cultural heritage includes more than one hundred fabulous shepherd huts. The shepherd settlement of Velika Planina is one of the oldest and well-preserved similar settlements in Europe. People first settled here three thousand years ago, during the Bronze Age, and shepherds began to bring cattle here in the Middle Ages. Shepherds still live here, especially from June to September, when cattle are brought from the valley for grazing. From June to September, we recommend a program for groups with a shepherd - make yourself a traditional hard cheese of love "treech"! It is no coincidence that near the source of the turbulent alpine river overlooking the mountains, former kings and presidents of Yugoslavia hunted and rested in a dacha built by the brilliant Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik. We will walk and at will try the most delicious traditional “strings” ( cottage cheese, flour, crushed crackers fried in oil), deer goulash or fried trout in a unique restaurant among nature.
