Kilva Airport
Description:
Kilwa Airport is located in the Masoko area, only three areas, the other two are more developed - Kilwa Kivinje and Kilwa Kisani.
On the territory of Kilwa Masoko, a large number of Arab ruins have been preserved, the history of which begins from the beginning of the eleventh century. This is the time when the city began to flourish through trade in gold, porcelain, ivory and slaves.
For five centuries, Kilwa was an important trading center along the East African coast. In the 16th century, the Portuguese defeated the city and completely destroyed all trade. Then there was the difficult path of becoming with the temporary raids of African tribes, in particular from the Zimba tribe, who plundered and killed the local population of Kilwa, from which its population was reduced by half.
Today it is a small African town with scant infrastructure and a small airport with only local flights.
