Остров Мафия

Mafia Island

Tanzania, Pwani region

Description:

Mafia Island consists of one large and several smaller islets. In the eighth century, it played a key role in East African trade and served as a haven for Arab traders.

The name of the island "Mafia" comes from the Arabic "morfiyeh" which means "group" or "archipelago".

Some of the small islands are uninhabited. And some preserved ancient ruins, which will be interesting to explore and get acquainted with the various animals inhabiting them - from monkeys and wild pigs to wings.

This place is worth a visit. Just 30 minutes by plane south of Zanzibar and you find yourself in paradise.

First of all, the island of Mafia is known for a variety of diving places. The island has a sufficient number of places for advanced divers, but beginners will not be bored either - cozy coves and bays protected from ocean power are suitable for beginner divers as best as possible. The underwater world amazes with its wealth. Unspoilt coral reefs, diverse marine flora and fauna are the best in the region.

Mafia Island is one of Tanzania’s spice islands. Spicy, intoxicating smells here are impregnated with every air cube.
