Chet Yot Temple
Description:
Chet Yot Temple is a unique and elegant temple of Chiagmai, whose architecture combines Thai, Lao, Indian and Chinese styles.
It was built in 1453 during the reign of King Tilokkarat. The temple is a pilgrimage center for those born in the year of the Snake.
The architectural form of the temple building resembles a pyramid - a spire with a square base in the center, surrounded by four smaller pagodas and decorated with 70 bas-reliefs. The prototype for the construction of this temple was the Indian temple of Mahabodhi in Bodh Gaya.
Inside the building there is a main hall where the Buddha statue is located, and several exits from where you can climb to the roof of the temple. However, only men have this privilege in Thailand.
