Buddhist Monastery in Kanchanaburi

sai Yok County, about 38 km northwest of Kanchanaburi City, Kanchanaburi Province, Thailand

Description:

One of the most famous attractions of the Thai province of Kanchanaburi is a Buddhist temple with a curious history. The building was built in 1994 as a Buddhist temple. But for an inexplicable reason, wild tigers began to come here. Their visits gave the temple a new name – it is most often called the Tiger Temple. The monks of the temple did not drive away the animals, but on the contrary, took care of them. Over time, in addition to tigers, other wild animals trampled here. The current colony of tigers at the temple is more than 50 heads. And, perhaps, this is a unique example of the neighborhood of man with such dangerous wild animals.

The temple, which was opened to tourists only a few years ago, is very popular. Not so often you get the opportunity not only to observe rare animals, but also fearlessly take pictures with them or even pet. However, all visitors to this place sign a document stating that the temple is not responsible for possible unfriendly behavior of wild animals.
