Phu Viang Dinosaur Museum
phu Viang National Park, Wiang Kao District, Khon Kaen, Thailand
About the company:
The Phu Viang Dinosaur Museum is essentially a geological museum whose main exhibits are various fossils and ancient artifacts. It was opened to the general public in 2001.
The first dinosaur remains were found in Thailand (just in Phu Viang) quite by accident, during drilling wells for the extraction of valuable ores in 1976. With this discovery began a program of search, excavation, identification, collection and systematization of information about the ancient animals inhabiting this province of Thailand. The collected information became available to everyone in the form of a museum exposition.
Its current exposition is the result of a multifaceted and complex research activity. It contains fossil remains of ancient dinosaurs and reproduced animal figures. In addition, the museum has a library, a dining room, a souvenir shop and a small shop. In the local auditorium, special training sessions are held for schoolchildren and students.
Since 2006, the museum is located in Viang Kao district. But the name Phu Viang, where all the major excavations were carried out, is preserved in its name.
