Temple of the Emerald Buddha Wat Pra Keo Don Tao
lampang is located 100 km southeast of Chiang Mai and 600 km north of Bangkok.
Description:
The Temple of Wat Pra Keo Don Tao or the Temple of the Emerald Buddha is perhaps the most important sacred building in Lampang Province. In the XV century, for 32 years, this temple kept the national symbol of Thailand - the Emerald Buddha, which is now installed in its own sanctuary - in the Royal Palace of Bangkok.
The temple of Wat Pra Keo Don Tao, like the city of Lampang itself, was founded in the VII century by the son of Queen Chamtui.
Until now, only a 50-meter gold Chedi has survived, in which a few hairs from the head of the Buddha are stored. The pagoda is based on niches and contains 7 Buddhas. In front of Chedi is an outdoor Burmese stylized wiharn built in 1909 by Burmese immigrants at the request of a Thai prince.
Also, in the shade of the trees behind Chedi, you can admire a white elephant statue with a small pavilion mounted on its back.
Also on the territory of the temple is the Lanna Museum of Culture, where rare porcelain and wood carvings are demonstrated.
