Thaosuranari Monument
Tambon Nai Mueang, Thesaban Nakhon Nakhon Ratchasima, Chang Wat Nakhon Ratchasima 30,000 Thailand
Description:
The Thaosuranari monument is dedicated to Ya-Mo, the heroine of Thailand’s newest historiography, who was the wife of Vice Governor Nakhon Ratchasim.
The monument was built of black copper in 1934 and installed in the city center. Its height reaches 1.85 meters. The right hand of the heroine holds a sword, and the statue itself faces west, towards Bangkok.
Every year, from March 23 to April 3, the square hosts a festival in honor of Ya-Mo. The holiday is accompanied by torchlight processions, fireworks, an exhibition of folk costumes, various shows associated with the name of the national heroine.
It is also worth noting that historians have doubts about the authenticity of Ya-Mo’s story – they believe it may have been falsified by Thailand’s nationalist historiography in the 1930s.
