River Khaek
Description:
The Khek River, also known as Van Tong, flows in the mountainous province of Phetchabun. Among extremes, travel along the current and rafting on boats on the rapids are popular.
Khek flows through the territory of northern Thailand on the land of a national reserve. The name of the stream comes from the tribe that lived on its banks. Another name of the water flow - Van Tong, by which it is known in the guidebooks of the province - coincides with the name of the administrative district.
The river is traditionally known for competitions organized by the inhabitants of two villages located on its banks. For several centuries, peasants organized races on fishing boats, identifying the most agile and skillful. Today, this custom has changed, and on Khek you can see the regatta, in which peasants and farmers take part. Such competitions are held annually in November.
The river is developing rafting, tourists can raft on boats along rapids and small waterfalls.
