Phra Ram Ratchaniwet Palace

Tambon Khlong Kra Saeng, Chang Wat Phetchaburi 76000, Thailand

Description:

Phra Ram Ratchaniwet, or Ban Puen Palace, is an extremely elegant building built in the early twentieth century in a typical European style.

In 1909, King Chulalongkorn the Great bought a plot of land on the Phetchaburi River and ordered a palace to be built there. The palace was modeled after the palace of the German Kaiser Wilhelm by German architect Karl Siegfried, who also designed a number of other royal palaces and villas in Thailand.

The palace is an impressive two-storey building with high windows and a massive roof. Thanks to the huge windows in each room of the palace is bright and spacious. On the first floor there is a dining room and a throne room, which are made in yellow. The stairs leading to the second floor are decorated with green tiles. On the second floor is the royal bathroom and bedroom. The palace is surrounded by a small garden with a fountain.
