Khao Yoi Cave Temple
Highway No.4 Rd., Khao Yoi, Khao Yoi, Phetchaburi
Description:
Khao Yoi Cave is a cave temple located north of the city of Phetchaburi. Near the cave there is a local administration building and a souvenir shop.
Khao Yoi Cave is carved by nature itself in the bowels of a large limestone rock near the railway station of the same name. The cave contains several sculptural images of the Buddha, among which stands out a giant statue of the reclining Buddha. According to legend, the cave was turned into a temple by the monks of the monastery in Talat.
This place became a cult in the late XIX century, when the future king of Thailand Rama V spent several days in meditation and prayer. He gave several sculptures to the temple and made donations that made it possible to turn the cave into a major social and religious center.
