Lamphu Island
Ko Lamphu Public Park, Bang Bai Mai, Mueang Surat Thani, Surattani, Thailand
Description:
Lamphu is a small island located in the city of Surattani in the middle of the Tapi River, 9 km from the mouth.
The relief of Lamphu Island is flat and only about 750 m long.
The island is connected by a bridge, but traffic on the island is only allowed on foot. The lack of cars makes it a popular holiday destination among lovers of quiet walks. The coastal strip is adapted for beautiful walks along the river, and food shops open in the evenings. Despite the active trade, the atmosphere in Surattani is different from other cities - they are already used to foreigners and will not pester you with a request to buy something. In addition, the residents of the city are actively involved in sports here.
Religious ceremonies are traditionally held on the island. As part of one of them, local residents pass through the island in a procession, following the ornate image of the Buddha. This ceremony is always held at dawn.
