Fort Provintia
Description:
Provintia Fort has been known as Chicane Towers since 1945. These towers were built by the Dutch during the colonization of Taiwan in 1653. At the place where the Provintia Fort is now located, there was previously an Aboriginal village called Sakam, from where the name Chikam Tower came.
Later, the fort was used as a powder warehouse. The military actions of 1720 brought serious destruction to the fort, and later it was further destroyed by earthquakes.
Two of the most beautiful temples dedicated to the gods - the sea and literature - were built on the territory of the fort in 1879. The architecture of the temples is made in classical Chinese style, using red tiles and cornices. On the towers there are 9 steles, on which poems of Emperor Qianlong are carved.
