Asure Gunu (Shahsey-Wahsey)

Description:

One of the graceful images in Islam
It comes on the 10th night of the holy lunar month of Hijra Muharram al-Haram. Although not an official holiday in Turkey, it is widely celebrated by Sunni and Shia Alevis.

For the people of the Sunnah, it is the day when Adam repented of his sin, Prophet Ibrahim was born, Jonah emerged from the belly of a whale, and Noah erected his arch in the wilderness. God gave ten prophets ten blessings. On this occasion, it is not forbidden to go erratically. For example, pour water on friends or passers-by.

For Alevi, this anniversary is filled with special meaning, since in Ashura, the grandson of the Prophet Muhammad Hussein, one of the 12 holy imams especially revered in Shiism, was torn to pieces at the Battle of Karbala.

The Ilahi Shiites do not recognize Ramadan, but, in memory of the murder of the Great Martyr, they fast for 12 days, starting with Ashura Gunyu. This is also the expected date of the Last Judgment.

In honor of the holiday, it is supposed to prepare a special variety of sweet pudding consisting of cereals, raisins and nuts, which is also designated as "Ashura".
