St. Nicholas Church
Description:
The Church of St. Nicholas in Turkey (Antalya) is a remarkable building of Byzantine times, erected in 343 AD. The basis for this construction was the ancient ruins of the temple of Artemis, which was destroyed by an earthquake of the second century AD. Here remained the remains of the saint, preserved inside a marble sarcophagus.
The temple was destroyed several times, but always restored and many times was subjected to reconstruction. Historically significant and deeply spiritual place is well known to numerous pilgrims. You can visit the temple on your own (Gökyazı Mahallesi, Kolcular Sk.), and as part of a tour group.
