Description:
In the ancient city of Ephesus in Turkey, on the Aegean coast, many ancient monuments have survived to this day. One of the attractions of this city is the library of Celsus. Celsus was a very educated man, did a lot in his time for the city, so the sarcophagus and its ashes were placed in the library.
The architectural design of the library in the form of theatrical decoration sets it apart from other buildings. Inscriptions, bas-reliefs, statues have a specific meaning and purpose. For example, on the central facade of the library there are four female sculptures as symbols of Knowledge, Virtue, Thought and Wisdom.
