Goreme City Museum
goreme village, Cappadocia region, Turkey
About the company:
The Goreme Museum looks like a group of rocks in which huge caves are carved. In them are all the sights of the museum: chapels, monasteries and churches. To date, there are six churches and a huge number of ruins from former monasteries. In the sixth century, when Goreme was born, there were more than 400 of them.
The most visited temple of the museum is the Church of St. Barbara. It attracts tourists with its wall painting. There are frescoes with faces, and ancient images of saints made by ochre. Without the help of a guide, not everyone will be able to understand what is depicted on them. So, doodles like locusts mean evil, the rooster symbolizes the church.
No less popular Church with apples of the XI century. It is called so, because in the temple there is a fresco by Archangel Michael, in whose hand lies a red ball similar to a ripe apple. According to another version, the church is so called because it is located among the apple trees. The cave of the monastery is made in the form of a cross. To get there, you need to climb through a narrow corridor, as the main entrance has long been destroyed. Inside, there is a chic view of the vaults with four columns, where frescoes with other saints hang.
