Olympos National Reserve
c ral Yolu, 07980 Antalya, Turkey
Description:
Olympos is a national reserve in Turkey, which includes the city of the same name and Mount Olympos (modern name - Tahtaly). The reserve is located on the coast eighty kilometers from Antalya.
The city of Olympos was founded in the third century BC and during its existence replaced more than one civilization, from antiquity to the Ottoman Empire. Many historical sites are concentrated in the city. Here you can see the ancient ruins of temples, theaters, tombs and castles.
Mount Olympos is famous for what Homer called the habitat of the monster Chimera. In the Iliad, the hero threw the monster into the bowels of the mountain, where she has lived ever since. In fact, the legend arose due to a unique natural phenomenon - periodically from the ground burst the flames. These are local breakthroughs of natural gas. But that doesn’t make legends any less attractive.
