Port Demre

The port of Demre is located near the eponymous settlement in the southern direction on the Mediterranean coast. During the Roman Empire, it was a major port where a large supply of grain was stored. The old buildings were abandoned and covered with sand. Archaeologists conducted excavations, the purpose of which was to restore the granary. One of the walls has been preserved, it gives an opportunity to assess the grandiose size of this structure. As for the port itself, fishing boats moor here, excursion water trips are held on small boats for tourists. From anywhere in Turkey in Demre can be reached by taxi or pre-ordered transfer.
