What to see in Marmaris

Marmaris is a vibrant seaside town in southwestern Turkey where the Aegean and Mediterranean seas meet. Its history goes back to ancient times: from ancient settlements to Ottoman fortifications, and modern life combines a resort atmosphere, cozy embankments and noisy marina for yachts. The city attracts with its warm sea, pine hills and mild climate, making it an ideal place for recreation and cultural walks.

Manufactures and facilities

Among the man-made attractions of Marmaris are medieval and later fortifications: the fortress of Marmaris Kalesi and historical castles, from where panoramic views of the bay open. The ancient ruins of Fiscos, Knidos and Amos preserve traces of ancient life and amphitheatre, and the Archaeology Park in the Iyuilik Rocks adds a dramatic atmosphere to them. The city is decorated with the Ibrahim Agha Mosque, the covered Bedesten Market and busy shopping streets, and modern monuments – a sculpture of a girl meeting sailors, the Ataturk Monument, the Lovers and the Pearl – create a memorable urban landscape.

Natural attractions and places

Natural attractions in the vicinity of Marmaris are striking in diversity: the picturesque bays of Bonjuk, Aquarium and Turunch, the sandy and pebble beaches of Kaputash, Kizkumu, Kumlubuk, Uzunyaly (Long Beach) and Ichmeler beckon with clean water and silence. Paradise Island with crystal clear water, Turgut Falls in the mountainous thickets, Pirate Caves on Hare Island and rafting opportunities on the Dalaman River add an adventure spirit. Pine hills, bays and secluded coves make Marmaris an excellent place for beach and eco-tourism.
