Metro Bridge

between metro stations Dnipro and Hydropark

Description:

The first metro bridge across the Dnieper in Kiev appeared thanks to the project of Georgy Borisovich Fuchs, who developed a transport interchange for the movement of electric trains and vehicles at several levels of one bridge. It connects the right-bank part of Kiev with Rusanovka and the Left Bank Massif. On its right side is the Dnipro metro station.

Since its opening on November 5, 1965, it has been in operation for almost thirty years without a single repair. 700 meters of the bridge is a two-tiered structure, the uniqueness of which is an arched structure at dry joints. It was the world’s first equivalent of a bridge of this size.

In the late nineties, a thorough inspection of the bridge was carried out and a decision was made to limit the movement of freight transport until the completion of major repairs. In 2009, the partial reconstruction of the concrete supports and roadway was completed, but according to experts, such partial measures can extend the life of the bridge by three years. So now the specialists of Kyivavtodor are developing a large-scale program to restore the bridge.
