Day of Remembrance and Honor

Description:

Monument of the Grieving Mother
On March 2, 1999, a new holiday appeared in Uzbekistan, more precisely a new name of the holiday "Victory Day". From now on it is called the Day of Remembrance and Honor.

Memory to the fallen. Honors live.

The feat of 450 thousand inhabitants of Uzbekistan is immortalized in the Book of Memory of Heroes who did not return from the war, consisting of 34 volumes. Published in Uzbekistan, it became a clear confirmation of the careful attitude to such values as love for the Motherland, patriotism, a sense of duty and responsibility to their people.

“We bow our heads before the sacred memory of our fathers and grandfathers, who spared no life, saving humanity from the fascist plague, and made a great contribution to the Victory,” President Islam Karimov said.

In difficult years, the Uzbeks received thousands of families evacuated to the rear of residents of fraternal republics who left the territory of the country captured by the enemy. Many families adopted children who became orphans during wartime. One of the most striking examples of this is the family of the blacksmith Shamakhmudov, a patronage family that adopted 15 orphaned children during the war. Their feat is immortalized in a majestic monument of granite and bronze in the center of Tashkent.
