Day of Remembrance of Victims of Repression in Uzbekistan

Description:

Museum of memory of victims of repression
There is no future without historical memory, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan I. Karimov

On August 31, Uzbekistan celebrates the “Day of Remembrance of Victims of Repression” on the initiative of the head of state Islam Karimov since 2001.

The memory of the dead is sacred. Honoring the memory of the victims of repression, who dreamed of today’s bright days, who did not spare their lives in the name of noble goals, elevates our thoughts and purifies our spirit. It is necessary to educate the citizens of the country, especially the younger generation, in the spirit of respect for the memory of our selfless ancestors who fought for the triumph of justice and independence.

In order to build a democratic state on the path of political and economic reforms, to stand on a par with the leading world powers, it is necessary to know its history as fully as possible. Study and analyze both its light and dark pages. Learn from the lessons of the past. Undoubtedly, one of the most terrible trials that fell to the lot of the people of Uzbekistan were the years of repression, which cut deep torn scars, tore to pieces and divided into black milestones a whole layer of national history, leaving terrible bloody wounds and unabated pain on it. This is the conquest of Turkestan by the Russian Empire in the XIX century and the popular uprising. The defeat of Turkestan autonomy and repression of the 20s of the XX century. The campaign of “dekulakization” and repression of the 30s, and then a new, even more powerful repressive wave of the 40s and 50s. War with its own people in the 80s, held under the banner of the so-called "cotton business".

In 2001, on the initiative of President Islam Karimov, one of the first museums in the CIS in memory of the victims of repressions was created in the Shohidlar Hoirasi memorial complex ("In memory of the victims of repression"). The main task of which is to perpetuate the memory of the victims of repression, conduct spiritual and educational events aimed at perpetuating and remembering the victims of repression and promoting patriotism manifested in the conduct of our ancestors.
