Khiva

Ak-mosque

Uzbekistan, Khiva, Ichan-Kala (Eastern part, Palvan-Darvaz gate).

Description:

Ak-mosque, or white mosque, is located in the beautiful city of Khiva. The mosque, despite its special importance for Uzbekistan, looks very modest. White walls with carved wooden columns on top are crowned with a large white dome.

Construction of the mosque began in the second half of the 17th century. At this time, the foundation was laid, and the structure itself was erected almost two hundred years later. The date of its formation can be found on the carved door of the mosque. In the middle of the 20th century, the mosque was subjected to restoration. The doors of the mosque are open to believers today.

You can get to the sights on your own by public transport or with a tour group. You need to get to the central bazaar of Khiva and walk to the mosque about 5 minutes on foot.
