The same age as Rome
Description:
The beginning of the tour – we meet at your hotel.
Samarkand is one of the oldest cities, formed in the 5th century BC. The city was formerly known as “Morokanda” and was the capital of Sogdiana. Later, the old part of Ancient Samarkand was renamed as Afrasiab. In the 14th-15th centuries Samarkad was the capital of Timur’s Empire.
The history of Samarkand goes back to the 6th century BC, when the Achaemenid dynasty ruled the empire, and in the 4th century the rule passed into the hands of the great commander Alexander the Great. In Divan Lugatiturk (11th century), Samarkand was named under the name "Semizkand", which in Uzbek means "Full City".
