Samarkand

The second day in Samarkand: the unexplored crossroads of civilizations!

Description:

But in this tour program you will get acquainted with a completely new part of Samarkand. You will see beautiful historical and cultural sites such as:

Afrosiab Museum: The museum is located in the north of Samarkand, near the ancient settlement of Afrosiab. The museum presented its modern appearance to visitors in the XX century. In the XIX century, archaeological excavations began on this place, as a result of which many artifacts were discovered, which later formed the basis of the museum exposition.

Mausoleum of Khoja Daniyar: Muslims call him the biblical prophet Daniel, as Christians call him, or Daniel - one of the four great Jewish prophets. Located by the Siab River, between the hills of Afrosiab.

Ulugbek Observatory: The observatory was built on the orders of Amir Timur’s grandson Muhammad Taragayam, better known as Ulugbek. It is worth noting that “Ziji Jadidi Guragani” or “New Guragan Astronomical Tables” – the main scientific work of Ulugbek – was created as a result of research conducted at this observatory.

- The Cathedral of St. Alexis of Moscow: The Orthodox Cathedral of St. Alexis of Moscow (St. Alexis Cathedral; St. Alexis Cathedral, Metropolitan of Moscow) was built in Samarkand in 1909-1911 according to the project of military engineer F. V. Smirnov as the main military cathedral of the city and consecrated in 1912 in honor of the wonderworker, St. Alexis.

- Samarkand silk carpet factory "Hujum": Here you can see and touch with your own eyes how real Samarkand silk carpets are made. The workshop was founded in 1992 to revive traditional techniques and produces about 400 handmade carpets per year.

- Konigil is a tourist village: Do you want to get acquainted with the traditions and life of local residents, see traditional crafts and try yourself in them? Then you need to go to the tourist village of Conigil. Here, in an ecologically clean area on the banks of the ancient Siab Canal, an ethnic village has been recreated on the basis of preserved traditional rural houses, demonstrating all aspects of life of a typical Uzbek village.

Finally, as additional options, we offer you:

- Imam al-Bukhari complex: The memorial complex is of key importance due to the location of the grave of the author of one of the six major Sunni collections of hadith, making this place one of the most revered Islamic shrines in Central Asia. The modern complex, erected in 1997-1998 on the initiative of President Islam Karimov on the 1225th anniversary of al-Bukhari, unites a mausoleum, a mosque, a khanaka, a library and an administrative building around a square courtyard. Large-scale reconstruction in 2025 increased the area of the complex to 44 hectares, adding four minarets of 75 meters, a new mosque for 10,000 people, a museum, as well as hotel infrastructure for numerous pilgrims and tourists.

- Khovrenko winery in Samarkand: the oldest wine production in Central Asia will be a great addition to your excursion program. The tasting hall is located in a historical building of the late XIX century - the house of the Russian merchant Filatov, who founded the first winery in Uzbekistan in 1868.
