Samarkand through the centuries
You will pass through the most interesting and impressive places of Samarkand. You will learn how it was influenced by the Great Silk Road in ancient times, who attacked the city and destroyed it throughout history and how Samarkand rose and flourished again. I will tell about the revival of the city in the era of Amir Timur, known in Europe as Tamerlane, and show the masterpieces of architecture built during the reign of his family and survived to the present day. So, the tour program:
Registan Square is the “business card” of Samarkand, located in the heart of the old city. I will show three majestic buildings of the complex, personifying the highest achievements of the architects of the Middle Ages - Ulugbek madrasah, Sher Dora madrasah and Till Kori madrasah.
Mausoleum Gur Emir is a luxurious family tomb of the Timurids. Amir Timur, his beloved grandchildren Muhammad Sultan, Ulugbek and other family members are buried here. I will tell the story of the tomb and its associated legend.
Bibi Khanum Mosque - you will see a grandiose mosque decorated with tiles, carved marble and paintings, a symbol of the boundless love of Timur's wife for her husband.
Shahi Zinda Necropolis is one of the most mysterious architectural monuments of Samarkand. You will be impressed by a string of graceful, sparkling blue colors of the tombs, where the royal personages and the nobility are buried.
Ulugbek Observatory – I will tell you about the life and scientific methods of the great scientist, mathematician and astronomer Mirzo Ulugbek. You will learn how he managed to determine the coordinates of 1018 stars, which correspond to the data now calculated using modern technology.
The burial of St. Daniel - you will visit a real holy place where Jews, Muslims and Christians come to worship. I will tell the story of the dried pistachio tree, which revived and blossomed after a visit to Samarkand by Patriarch Alexy II in 1996.
Samarkand is famous not only for its holy places and magnificent architecture, but also for its crafts. You will visit several factories that have retained their authenticity. For example, in the Hujum factory you will see hand-made silk carpets using ancient technology. And in the place "Konigil" the production of high-quality paper according to ancient methods was restored.
