Monument of Courage
Uzbekistan, Tashkent, Mustaqillik Avenue, Monument of Courage
Description:
The Courage Memorial was erected on May 20, 1970 by architect Adamov and sculptor Ryabichev. The landmark was made in honor of the memory of the strongest aftershock on April 26, 1966 with an amplitude of 8.3 points, which caused great damage to the city. Strong earthquakes destroyed numerous private buildings, kindergartens, schools, shops, organizations and various institutions.
All residents, as well as builders and volunteers from all countries of the former USSR, took part in the improvement of the city after the terrible event. After about 3 years of restoration work, people from all over the world managed to restore the former appearance of Tashkent. Thus, 10 years later, not far from the epicenter of the earthquake, the monument "Courage" was erected, personifying the will and courage of people before the dangerous force of nature. You can get to the monument by subway to St. “Abdullah Kadyri” or “Independence Square”, and then on foot from Independence Square on Sharaf Rashidov Avenue (15 minutes).
