Waterfalls of Uzbekistan

Description:

Uzbekistan, although associated by many with hot deserts and historic cities, is also rich in picturesque mountainous areas where you can find beautiful waterfalls. Most of them are concentrated in the Tashkent region, in the foothills and mountains of the Western Tien Shan (Chimgan, Beldersai, Pskem-Ugam National Park), and there are several in other regions.

Here are some of the most famous and accessible waterfalls in Uzbekistan:

Tashkent region:

  • Paltau Falls: One of the most famous and impressive waterfalls. It falls from a height of about 38 meters. Located in Ugam-Chatkal National Park, near the village of Paltau. The way to it passes through picturesque mountain landscapes, and next to it is the ancient grotto of Obi-Rahmat with a parking lot of ancient people.

  • Tawaksaya Falls: This is a whole system of waterfalls and canyons located about 50 km northeast of Tashkent. Here you can find several waterfalls, including "Sharshare Shepherds", "Jacuzzi sharshara", "Kiz sochlari sharshara" and others. The route to them is quite popular for day trips.

  • Fata Bride Falls (Chimgan): This waterfall, located in the Chimgan Mountains, is one of the most visited. Its name is due to the fact that the water jets falling from the cliff resemble a veil. It is accessible for hiking and is part of many tourist routes in Chimgan.

  • Kulasia Falls (Book): Located on the Kulasya River in Bostanlyk district, in the southeastern part of the Charvak reservoir. This is a cascade of waterfalls, among which the largest and most impressive is the waterfall "Book" with a height of about 15 meters.

  • Karakiyasai Falls: Scenic route with waterfalls one and a half hours drive from Tashkent. Available to visit by train to Gazalkent, and then on foot or by taxi.

  • Aksai Falls: Located in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region, in the Aksai gorge.

  • Badaxa Falls: Located in the area of Pskem, the path to it often includes a throw on cars and a pedestrian crossing.

  • Beldersay Falls: In the lower reaches of the Marmara River in Beldersay, a popular ski resort, you can also find waterfalls, one of which reaches 15 meters in height.

Other regions of Uzbekistan:

  • Suvtushar waterfall (Hissar Reserve, Kashkadarya region): One of the highest waterfalls in Uzbekistan, its height is 84 meters. Located in Hissar Reserve, on the small river of the same name. Locals sometimes call it Suttushar, which means Milk Falls.

  • Sangardak waterfall (Surkhandarya region): This waterfall is located in the Sariasi district of Surkhandarya region, near the city of Denau. The water falls from a height of about 150 meters.

It is important to know when visiting waterfalls:

  • Seasonality: Most waterfalls are most full-flowing in spring (April-May) during snowmelt, and by the end of summer and autumn can become shallow or even dry.

  • Availability: Many waterfalls are located in mountainous areas, and the path to them can be associated with hiking of varying degrees of complexity. Comfortable shoes and clothes are required.

  • Nature: Remember to preserve nature. Do not leave garbage, do not damage plants.

  • Guide: For some waterfalls, especially in remote or difficult places, it is recommended to hire a local guide.

Visiting the waterfalls of Uzbekistan is a great way to enjoy the natural beauty of the country, which is significantly different from its famous historical monuments.
