Cardiff Central Library

The Hayes, Cardiff CF10 1FL, Wales, United Kingdom

Description:

Cardiff Central Library is the city’s main library located in the heart of Cardiff. It first opened in 1861 in a completely different building and was known as the Cardiff Free Library. Later, a move to a new building took place, and a small museum and the School of Science and Art “settled” to the library. In total, the library changed four rooms over 150 years, until it moved in 2009 to an ultra-modern 6-storey building built specifically for it.

The new building of the library is in a very "elitarian" environment. Directly opposite it is the famous shopping complex Hayes, nearby are expensive hotels Marriott and Radisson Blue. The design of the library, which includes huge glass segments of the walls, fully corresponds to the surrounding ensemble.

Now in the library collection there are more than 90,000 books located on 3 kilometers of shelving. It also contains a lot of information on other media, such as CDs and DVDs.
