Cardiff City Stadium
Leckwith Rd, Cardiff, South Glamorgan CF11 8AZ, Wales, United Kingdom
Description:
Cardiff City ranks second in Wales in terms of volume, behind the giant Millennium Stadium, located here in Cardiff. It can accommodate more than 26,800 fans at the same time (for comparison, the capacity of the Millennium is almost 80,000). The size of the playing field is 104 x 66 meters.
Cardiff City are home to two clubs at once - Cardiff City Football Club and Cardiff Blues Rugby Club. The Wales national football team has played in this stadium twice. It is a very young and modern stadium, opened only in May 2009. It was designed by Arup Associates. Cardiff City used to play at the historic Ninian Park Stadium, opened in 1910. In honor of the opening, the team "renovated" the stadium with a game against Celtic.
It is noteworthy that huge funds were invested not only in the construction of the stadium, but also in the construction of infrastructure. So, near the stadium "Cardiff City" several hotels and shopping centers were built, transport interchanges were landscaped.
A remarkable and at the same time touching monument, erected in the stadium in 2012 and dedicated to the team captain Fred Kenor - the famous Welsh footballer and coach, for the first and only time in history led the Welsh team to victory in the FA Cup. The monument depicts this talented man with a reward in his hands.
