Cardiff Central Bus Station
Description:
Cardiff Central Bus Station, together with Central Station, forms the most important transport interchange in Wales, supported by a large fleet of taxis and bicycles located here, in the vicinity of Central Square. The bus station has 34 platforms and is the largest station in Cardiff and Wales. The station also serves most of the bus routes that operate around the city.
Previously, on the site of the Central bus station was a residential and commercial area called Temprans Town. It was demolished in 1937 when the owners of the Great Western Railway demanded that local authorities improve the view from their new station (now Central Railway Station). Thus, in 1954, the Central Bus Station opened on the site of Temprans Town.
In 2008, the global reconstruction of the bus station building began, the terminal and many service buildings were demolished. In 2009, some bus services began to be serviced again at the bus station. There are plans to open a new central bus station building on the opposite side of Central Square, on Wooden Street, on the site of a car park.
