Cardiff International Airport
Description:
Cardiff International Airport has existed since 1942, when it was built as a training base for the Royal Air Force's Supermarine Spitfire. It is located in the south-west of Cardiff, the capital of Wales (about 19 km away), near the town of Roose in the Valley of Glamorgan. After the war, in the early 50s, the airport began to be used for commercial purposes, the first flights went to Dublin, and then to France, Cork, Belfast.
In the 70s, the famous supersonic airliner Concorde was serviced several times at Glamorgan Roose Airport (as it was then called), but the runway was too short for him. This was the impetus for the growth of the airport, the lengthening of the runway and the construction of hangars, which played a historical role in his life.
Cardiff Airport has the largest maintenance hangar in the world. Its area is 250 x 175 meters. British Airways uses it for maintenance of heavy aircraft. In addition to the large number of airlines, charters and low-cost airlines using Cardiff Airport, some space exploration companies are based here.
Getting to the airport from Cardiff is very easy. On the railway "Glamorgan Valley Line" there is a station "Ruz - Cardiff International Airport", from which a bus goes to the airport.
