Skeldergate Bridge
7 Bishopgate St, York YO23 1JH, United Kingdom
Description:
One of the attractions of York is the Skeldergate Bridge, laid over the River Ouse in 1881. It replaced the ferry, which could not cope with the increased flow of passengers. The bridge is a metal structure decorated with Gothic elements. The parapet is decorated with decorative iron products depicting a shamrock, a six-pointed star and a white rose - the symbol of York.
The length of the bridge is 200 meters, the width is 12 meters. The bridge contains two car lanes and two pedestrian sidewalks lined with tiles.
Skeldergate is one of the popular holiday destinations. From here there is a picturesque view of the river Ouse against the background of the old city. At the eastern end of the bridge is a medieval castle, which is a direct witness to the history of York. A few steps from the bridge there is a beautiful park, cozy restaurants and cafes where you can relax perfectly.
