Naburn Railway Bridge

65, York, United Kingdom

Description:

One of the attractions of York is the Naburn railway drawbridge, laid over the River Ouse in 1871. It is also known as the “Fisherman’s Bridge”, due to the large metal sculpture of a fisherman with a bicycle and a dog installed on it in 2000.

The length of the bridge is 220 meters, the width is 8 meters. It is a metal structure consisting of two forged spans in the form of a string.

In 1983, the York-Selby Railway was closed and the bridge became one of the most popular holiday destinations. Here you can take a fascinating boat trip along the river Ouz and go fishing. In this place, water rowing competitions are held annually, which are always attended by numerous fans. Near the bridge there is a camping and a cozy cafe. Many Yorkers come here for the weekend to relax and forget about their problems.
